True confessions

soundofmusic.jpgI have a confession. It’s kind of embarrassing, but still: my favorite movie of all time is The Sound of Music. I know all the songs by heart, and can recite chunks of dialog from memory. I can still remember the first time I saw it and Maria went back to the convent right before intermission (yes, there was an intermission) and how worried I was that she and the Captain wouldn’t get together. I swear, it almost made me want to join a convent, just so that I could meet someone like Christopher Plummer. Like I said, almost. Anyway, all of this leads me to my find of the day: Rolf is a Nazi, an album of Sound of Music covers. Wow! Some are stranger than others, but if you can’t forget the image of Julie Andrews running through that mountain pasture at the beginning of the movie (and I once spent a day climbing the mountains around Salzburg, Austria looking for that damned pasture, only to learn later that they had filmed that scene in Switzerland – argh!), be sure to listen to the opening tune.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard comes from The Sound of Music: “When the Lord closes a door, somwhere he opens a window.” Everything I need to know I learned in kindergarten? Bah! I learned it all in The Sound of Music.

Tip o’ the hat to Boing Boing for the link.
