Hi, my name is Eileen and I’m an Apple fangirl. No, it’s true. I proved it today by standing in line for seven hours to buy an iPhone 4. If that’s not true devotion I don’t know what is. The good (bad?) news is that Chuck stood in line with me. And you [...] All day long we have been watching plane after plane take off from Charles de Gaulle Airport. Normally I either wouldn’t notice, or if the sound was too close I’d find it annoying. Not today. Today it’s like the music of the gods because it means we will finally be heading home. One week [...] Our iPad arrived late on Saturday (its release day) and I was super excited to open the box. As always, Apple outdoes everybody in elegance of packaging (which just heightens the excitement level). Once out of the box, the iPad at first glance looks like a big ass iPhone or iPod touch. And when [...] I’ve already updated iTunes, accepted the new service agreement (yada yada yada), and downloaded several iPad apps (talk about being all dressed up with nowhere to go!). So far I’ve gotten: ABC Player (streaming ABC shows over wifi, yippee!), NPR for iPad (streaming NPR shows over wifi, yippee!), NYT Editors’ Choice (streaming… okay, you [...] Stephen Fry, one of the funniest guys around, has written a wonderful article for Time magazine about Apple, the iPad, and Steve Jobs. It’s a lovely, funny read. His description of going over to play with Douglas Adams is classic: “Is he in?” I would pant excitedly. Douglas’ wife Jane would point with resigned [...] Today was the big day. I’ve been anxiously waiting all week. Yesterday the big announcement came: at 5:30am (PST) Apple new iPad would go on sale (for pre-order, arrives by April 3). I was up by 5:20. Paced in front of the computer and at 5:29 sure enough the store opened with a shiny [...] It’s been a solid week on the road for Chuck and me. We’ve been traveling since last Sunday, and got home late yesterday. We spent five days in Yuba City where Chuck was doing some training, then headed down to visit friends in Vacaville, then yesterday we went to San Francisco to check out [...] I viewed/read the Gizmodo liveblog of the Apple event this morning announcing the (ta-da!) iPad. Now that the wait is over (well, for the announcement, at least – you’ll have to wait 60 days for the device to start shipping), it’s oddly, well, if not disappointing then not quite as magical as Steve Jobs [...] My inner Apple fangirl is about to burst out and take control of my body for the next 12 hours or so in anticipation of the big announcement coming from Apple tomorrow. Will it be a tablet? Will it be under $500? Will it be able to walk on water (okay, probably not that…)? [...] |
