Well, we did it again. We switched web hosting providers (from Hostasaurus to Dreamhost). It seemed like a good idea – we wanted more control over database creation, subdomains, email addresses – stuff like that. So Chuck called Hostasaurus when he got the latest bill and told them we wouldn’t be re-upping (our account was good through Feb 16, supposedly). So far so good. He then set up our new account on Dreamhost, and we planned on backing up all of our files, transferring them to Dreamhost, then smoothly changing the DNS records. Ha-ha! As I was in the midst of backing up our website last night, Hostasaurus shut our account down – all our stuff went off into the ether just like that! Our email accounts died, and we were effectively dead in the water until the DNS records changed. *sigh* I had backed up the site last week, so this wasn’t too horrendous, beyond the fact that some email probably was lost (really, we weren’t just ignoring you!). But the blog died (again, as it did the last time we switched web hosting services from iPowerWeb to Hostasaurus, which seemed a good idea at the time), and the last backup is on my computer at home and we are currently in Napa enjoying a wine tasting weekend. The good news: I have learned how to do a complete install of Movable Type on my own! The bad news: all of the archives for the blog are at home and will need to be restored when I get home on Monday night. So excuse the style sheet oddness and lack of nifty archives, etc. Okay, so now I’m going to go to bed and not wory about this blog anymore!
