It’s still raining here in So Cal. It’s been raining off and on since last November. I’m not exaggerating much. Well, maybe a little. But it sure seems like it’s been raining that long. Here at the O’Shea homestead, we’ve developed a little problem. It appears we have a low spot. Well, two low spots. Well, actually three low spots. We’ve dubbed the one in the driveway Lake O’Shea as it can reach quite glorious proportions. So grand was it yesterday that we briefly renamed it the Sea of O’Shea. The waters have since receded, thank goodness due to the herculean efforts of a tiny bilge pump that Chuck and my brother-in-law David installed (well, mostly David, who has made it his life’s work to keep the poor little guy running with ever more complicated Rube Goldberg-like fixes). Meanwhile in the backyard the O’Shea swamp has been developing. It appears to have started when Chuck built the pond and struck water. Ever since, a slow and steady ooze of water has created a semi-permanent wet spot in the backyard. *sigh* So it goes. Chuck is now happily planning a French drain for the swamp. For the driveway we have bigger plans – a new roof and gutter system. I love owning a home.
