Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

We’re having a short vacation in Park City, Utah, getting in some skiing and sightseeing. I say Park City, but we haven’t actually made it to Park City yet. Yesterday we skiied at Snowbird, and today we’re at The Canyons (where I found a wireless connection at the Grand Summit Lodge for five bucks a day). Chuck is the skier of the family, I normally spend my time falling down and trying not to kill myself. This time I wisely took a lesson yesterday, and while I’ll never be great, at least I’m not the hazard to those around me that I used to be. Chuck is in his element, skiing black diamond runs and loving it. He’s wearing a helmet, which made his friend Jack say when he saw it, “I’m not skiing with you!” (no great loss, as Chuck is a much better skier). The surprising fact is that probably 60% of the skiers up here are wearing helmets now. By the end of the first day, the group we were with all planned on getting helmets for next year’s skiing Today I went snowshoeing, which was beyond awesome! If you like hiking or running, you’ll love snowshoeing. You work really hard, but you also get to see fantastic back country views. So I think I’ll leave the downhill skiing to Chuck, and stick to bunny slopes and snowshoeing. Ooh! Last night we went to see the local, uh, site to see: Homestead Crater. It’s a huge dome that erupts out of the ground and inside the crater is a natural hot springs cavern where they actually allow diving! Very weird. Also expensive: it costs $10 to actually enter the cavern, so we just peeked in as we had no money with us at the time. That’s one thing about Park City and the surrounding areas: nothing is cheap here! Well, that’s it for today, I’m off to get a massage now. It’s been a tough two days.
