Ain’t Flag Day grand?

Yesterday, for those who missed it, was Flag Day. Normally, this “holiday” passes pretty uneventfully. But now I have a whole new feeling about it. See, I’ve been eyeing a new digital camera, the Canon SD500, a nifty new offering that has a two inch view screen and 7.1 megapixels, packed in a very portable and sturdy body. Cool! But it’s pretty hard to get ahold of the little fella, and I really didn’t need it as I had a perfectly nice camera already. Still, a girl can dream. Undeterred, Chuck hit the phone book yesterday, calling around for a camera store that had it in stock (as we are leaving for Colorado today for a short visit, he wanted me to have it, cuz he’s just that sort of guy). He finally found a place and went to pick it up. He and the salesperson discussed the camera, looked at the display model and display box, and then he bought the camera. Well, he though he bought the camera. He brought it home, wrapped it, and surprised me with it wwhen I came home. I unwrapped it, was completely blown away, then opened the box to find – no camera! Seems the salesperson had accidentally given Chuck the display box, sans camera. Oops! Now I processed what must have happened pretty quickly, and burst out laughing. Chuck’s face literally fell, as did his jaw. He turned the box upside down, looked through it twice, then suddenly the light dawned and he realized what had happened, too. He was more concerned about the store’s reaction, though, and immediately called, afraid they wouldn’t believe his story of the empty box (“Yeah sure, it was empty. And I’m just going to give you another camera. Riiiight…”). The salesperson who answered said, “oh, I was hoping you’d call! We realized after you left what had happened.” So all’s well that ends well. We’re going to pick up the actual camera on our way to the airport, and I can play with my new toy on the plane (as we know the basic rule of digital cameras – always buy a spare battery – which Chuck did – so we have a charged and good to go backup battery).

Next Flag Day I’m going to drop some serious hints about that Mini I have been lusting after.
