Poor wandering one

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling for the past couple of months, most of it work-related. I fly up and down California a lot, and have developed a real fondness for JetBlue. First off, they fly out of long Beach Airport which is the BEST airport in California, in my opinion. What’s not to love about an airport where you still get to walk out onto the tarmac to board the planes, and where they basically toss your bags off the plane onto the baggage carousel? And security, did I mention security? No crazy lines there, uh uh. And their valet parking rocks, too – it’s the same cost as regular parking at LAX. If I have a gripe, it’s that it takes forever to get any free miles with them, as it’s mileage-based versus flight-based like Southwest (on Southwest, you get the same credit for a 45 minute flight as you would for a 6 hour flight). But I forgive them. Their in-flight service is great, too, with satellite TV in all seats and decent leg room even in coach. So that’s my brief fan girl homage to JetBlue.

About a month ago I was on a flight from Sacramento to Long Beach, heading home after a busy trip. I was pretty tired, and was listening to my iPod nano (first generation black). When we started our approach, we all had to turn off all electronic devices, so I foolishly put the iPod in the pocket in front of my seat, figuring I’d stick it in my bag when I got up to leave. You can see where this is going, I bet. Yep, I got up 15 minutes later and forgot all about my poor little iPod in the seat pocket. A few days passed before I was going out for a run, and went to grab it and I knew instantly – it all came flooding back to me – my putting it in the seat pocket, all of it. Argh!!! By that time, God only knew where it had gone, so I figured it was history. And as the days and then weeks passed, I figured it was gone for good. So sure was I that I finally replaced it with a red second generation iPod nano.

This past Thursday we were in San Diego for work, and Chuck got a phone call from a guy named Shawn who, it turned out, was a pilot with – can you guess? – JetBlue. They were cleaning a plane he was piloting out after a flight and they found my iPod nano! The flight attendants didn’t know what to do with it, so he resourcefully found my contact list on the iPod and called us! He’s going to mail it back home! He and Chuck got to talking, and he mentioned that he had seen that I had the audiobook version of The Secret on it and was interested in reading it. So Chuck said we’d call and give him the info to download the MP3 for himself. He did just that yesterday, and now my black nano is headed for home. How amazing is that? Those JetBlue folks, always looking out for us passengers!

This also means that I once again have one each of all generations of the iPod. I think it was all meant to be. God apparently wants me to have a complete collection of iPods.
