Wings of eagles

Along time ago in a galaxy far far away I used to work at USC. One of the groups I worked with was involved, for a while, in a project on Catalina Island. This meant I got to go out to Catalina Island pretty regularly for a while, and even better got to spend my time in Two Harbors. One of the things we were doing was looking into ways to get the then dormant Eagle Cam working again. Back in the old days it was a black & white stream over microwave (it was a color camera but the bandwidth was so narrow, the feed degraded to B&W).

Well, the Eagle Cam is alive and well in color and with sound, thanks to the Nature Conservancy!! This is really cool – you get to watch the live of two bald eagles unfold live on the Internet (think Truman Show with eagles and a less complicated plot). Right now there are eggs and they should be hatching at the end of the month. Take a minute or two and just watch – and feel yourself relax. The whole time I’ve been writing this, I’ve been listening to the sounds of nature on Catalina Island. There are definitely worse ways to spend your time!
